Andy Selters

Andy Selters is a former international alpine climber and guide who settled in the Owens Valley in 1990. He’s practiced T’ai-chi chuan since the early 1980s, when he learned the traditional Yang style long-form from Grand Master T.Y. Pang.

Andy works to transmit the movements and philosophy that Mr. Pang taught—with the emphasis on peaceful dynamics and building “aliveness”–but he translates in his own, more verbal style. Studios and groups started inviting Andy to teach some 15 years ago, and in that time he has helped many students enhance their mobility, stability, strength, and general mind-and-body awareness and well-being.

He has continued his education, including certification in the fitness techniques ChiRunning and ChiWalking, but the essentially infinite depth of the Yang style T’ai-chi chuan remains his primary teaching. He’s developed an intuitive feel for what students are ready to learn, and he always looks forward to introducing new people to the dual principles of ease and effectiveness for everyday living.
